We are looking forward to having you join our street performing troupe for the first ever Dickens Festival! This is a unique performing opportunity and a chance to take part in the beginning of a new community tradition. Below is a listing of our rehearsal/meeting dates. The dates are subject to some minor change.
All rehearsals will meet at 6:45 p.m. during the last 15 minutes of our class session (held at 820 E. Young). You will join our class as we teach them the different elements of street performing and as we rehearse those elements. We expect you to attend at least two of the classes and one dress rehearsal. The purpose of the dress rehearsal will be to become familiar with the performance space.
The street performance portion of the Dickens Festival will bring a unique spirit to the event. Performers will bring stories and experiences to life, inviting the attendees to immerse themselves in the spirit of Christmas and to feel the joy that accompanies this season. Our purpose is to connect with the audience and to bring a fun, interactive experience to the Festival. As you create your character, imagine walking through the streets of Dickens’ era England at Christmas time and picture the people you come in contact with: carolers, flower sellers, instruments, friendly shoppers, jugglers, etc. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination!
As a volunteer street performer, your character is largely up to you to define and develop, but we will need to see and approve your selection. If you need help coming up with an idea and characterization, we are happy to help. We also expect that you will assist us in costuming your character. We are still a small company with limited resources. We will help where we can, but please plan on taking the time to costume your character.
Thank you for joining us!
